TN poster project
I'm so impressed with all of the posters! All I can say is wow! I can tell that the students worked extremely hard on these. They could even tell me all about their posters!

A Noun is a Person, Place, Thing or Animal
We are working on nouns this week and the students are really enjoying it. I love teaching nouns, adjectives and verbs! They are so fun and there are a lot of fun activities you can do to make it so much more interesting. Today, the students went in groups of four around the school and took a picture of one person, one place, on thing and one animal. Here are the groups and the pictures they took. (They really enjoyed the activity).

SAT 10
Almost Done With SAT 10!
I don't know about everyone else, but I am so glad to almost be done with our SAT 10 testing and get back to our normal routines!!! However, the students have been working so hard and really doing a good job of following directions. Something I know that we will have to work on for the remainder of the year is filling in bubbles!
We will be back on our normal routine next week so be looking for a new spelling list again this Friday and prepare for the spelling test.
I'm so proud of my class. They are so well behaved and do everything I ask. One think I'm particularly proud of them about is working together. I do a lot of activities in the classroom where the students either have a partner or work with a group. They all do such a great job working together! I love it!!!

The Daily 5
The students are doing a great job with the daily 5. I'm very proud of their progress. We have been working on building their stamina on read to yourself and work on writing. We are now up to reading for 19 minutes straight! That means everyone in the classroom is doing nothing but reading for the entire 19 minutes. We are also up to 9 minutes of work on writing! I was a little worried at the beginning of the year as to whether the students would like the daily 5 because they were so use to centers and several would ask about centers. But, now that we have been doing the daily 5 for 2 weeks they really seem to like it. We started reading with someone today. Here are some pictures while practicing working on writing and read with someone

Weekly Reading Test
I know that most of you are use to your child taking their weekly reading test on Fridays after reading the story several times. 2nd graders have to take a SAT10 test at the end of the year (it gets them ready for TCAP). One of the things they will have to do on that test is read a story and immediately answer questions. I want to prepare them for this test so we will be reading our weekly story on Monday and taking our test on Tuesday. We will also go over the answers to help them learn test taking strategies. If you have any questions regarding this please feel free to ask! Also, please make sure to do the reading fluency homework each night. It will help your child become a more fluent reader which in turn will also help them to be able to comprehend better.

Our First Day
We had a great first day in second grade! The students worked hard and learned the classroom rules, routines and procedures. I can already tell that this is going to be a well behaved class!
Here is a picture of the students working on their child glyph:
The students got a chance to browse the room. Here is James and Landan relaxing in the classroom library!
I look forward to spending my day with all of my students everyday! It is so nice to have such a great class to come to everyday! I hope that they enjoy being in my class as much as I enjoy having them in my class!
Overall, I think we ALL had a fantastic day!!!
